Employee Spotlight: Dan Zavala

Posted April 7, 2017by Jennie Garrepy

Each month, Continuum spotlights an employee who has gone above and beyond. The spotlight is more than just recognition of the hard work being done at Continuum, but a look into the person behind that work. We find out what our employees do for fun, what their favorite movies are, what their passions are and much more. We also ask them about their experiences working at Continuum and what they like most about their job. Check back each month to find out who made the Employee Spotlight.

This week Dan Zavala is being featured!

Dan Zavala is a UX Designer and works out of Continuum's Boston office.

Let's get to know Dan a little better...

Dan at Continuum

How long have you been working at Continuum? 2+ Years!

What is your favorite thing about working for Continuum?
Working with such a diverse team and people in different parts of the world.

What is your best memory as a Continuum employee? When we volunteered to plan flowers at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Jamaica Plain Campus. It felt great to give back and work together with the team on something that made a difference to the campus’ visitors.

Do you have any fun/funny stories that involve any of your co-workers? "All of the company outings!"

What do you look for in a good company? "The opportunity to make a difference."

Would you recommend applying at Continuum to a friend?Definitely!

More about Dan

What is your title here at Continuum? “User Experience Designer.”

How did you hear about Continuum in the first place? “My mentor introduced me to Dee. ”

What is one skill that you have acquired since starting at Continuum?"Working in Photoshop! Looking at my work when I first started and comparing it to my work now – there’s a stark difference! It’s pretty crazy. I’ve definitely come a long way."

What is an interesting fact about yourself? "My family and I were migrant farmworkers growing up, so we moved from Ohio to Florida with the seasons. I’ve learned that’s where I’ve gotten my strong work ethic."

What is your favorite movie? "Hmph, this is a tough one. I’m going to say Pan’s Labyrinth."

What is your favorite TV show? "American Horror Story. Ryan Murphy is a genius!"

What do you like to do for fun? "I love going to concerts! It’s great to see and hear artists perform their music in person."

What is your hidden talent? "I can cook."

What is your favorite animal? "Ducks. Watching them waddle gets me every time."

Do you have any pets? What are their names? “Yes, we have a cat named Pearl. She’s a rescue.”

What kind of music do you like to listen to? "Beyonce."

If you could travel anywhere on earth for vacation, where would you go? "I’d probably go back to Prague. I went there for a study abroad program in college. APPARENTLY, if you rub a stone on the Charles Bridge, it’s supposed to mean that you’re going to return some day. And I did it - I rubbed a stone, but I haven’t gone back! So it’s about time. I’d probably take the opportunity to backpack around Europe while I was there."

What is your go-to karaoke song? “‘Oh boy, The Cell Block Tango from Chicago. You can get other people to join in since you need someone to sing each of the parts!”

Do you play any instruments? “No, unfortunately.

Do you follow/play any sports? If so, which teams/sports?  Nope!”

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why? I’d want the ability to fly at supersonic speed. It’d be pretty cool to travel to different places on a whim.
