Why #GivingTuesday is All about Helping Veterans

Perhaps you're familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving back? During this season of giving thanks, it seems only appropriate that we devote a day to honor those whose services we're thankful for. That's why for us at Continuum, #GivingTuesday is a day to pay tribute to our United States veterans. Keep reading for details on our current awareness and fundraising campaigns! 

Did you know that we're committed to giving back to veterans all year long? The Continuum Veterans Foundation (CVF) was founded in 2012 by Continuum® to help veterans find jobs in the IT industry. Our company is the sole donor, with a percentage of all company profits used to fund CVF and veterans causes like Hire Heroes USA, an organization dedicated to creating job opportunities for U.S. military veterans and their spouses through employment training and corporate engagement. In addition to providing preferential hiring consideration to veterans, all employees are encouraged to volunteer 20 hours a year of paid company time to veterans organizations. These Boots are Made for Giving!

Continuum and Rapid7 Veterans Boot Drive Challenge

This year, we kicked off our first ever Boot Drive for Veterans, going toe to toe with our Boston headquarters neighbor, Rapid7! Yesterday marked the last day of our challenge to donate the most pairs of boots to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans. We're excited to announce that thanks to the generous efforts of everyone involved, including guest donations from Nexum, Inc. and Security 7, we were able to surpass the building goal of 100 donated boots. We're still tallying the final results, but as of now we can confirm that Continuum has raised over 150 pairs of boots for veterans!


We also have to give a special shout out to our partner, Peter Melby of Greystone Technology! No stranger to competitive wagers with our CEO, Michael George, Peter, a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, agreed to face-off against Michael again, betting on Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots. The terms were simple - for every point the loser's team lost by, he had to donate 10 pairs of boots to NECHV.

In case you missed the nail-biter of a football game, the Broncos beat the Patriots by six points. Peter was even in the snowy stands to witness it!

Although we were hoping for another Patriots shutout, knowing sixty more veterans will receive boots this winter on behalf of Continuum left us feeling victorious. What's more? As Peter announces in his recap blog post, Greystone is donating $100 to NECHV for each point the Broncos won by - that's $600!

Thank you again to all who've helped us honor veterans this year. On this #GivingTuesday, we're thrilled to be able to support NECHV and announce that we've already raised over 150 pairs of boots for service men and women in need! We're far from being done volunteering, however. We'll be donating our time this Thursday, December 3, working with NECHV's maintenance and housekeeping staffs, preparing meals, washing dishes and serving lunches.
